Courses Available
There are short courses available at the Smithy at all levels to suit
the complete beginner up to advanced forgework at Associate level.
Courses are tailored to individual requirements and you can work on your
own project, such as making your own hand forged toolkit.
Aspects such as anvil work and powerhammer forging could be covered
depending on your requirements and level of expertise. Course places are
limited being offered on a one-to-one basis with Bruce or a maximum
of two students at one time.
Courses are from one day up to a week and would make an ideal
accompaniment to a holiday or visit to Shetland. Please
contact us for availability.
Shetland is an unspoilt group of islands at the northernmost tip of
the UK - as close to Bergen in Norway as it is to Aberdeen in Scotland.
Although strictly speaking part of Scotland it is more Norse influenced,
with the spectacular Viking fire festival Up-Helly-Aa taking place in
the winter months.

Shetland is a bird-watcher's paradise with some of the best colonies
of sea birds in the country, beautiful seascapes and unspoilt rugged
landscapes for walkers with carpets of wild flowers in the summer.
Accommodation is available
in the locality of the Smithy at
Almara
( B&B and self catering),
